Common Core Goals
: At the end of each trimester you should be able to do the following:
Trimester 1:
Use the properties of integer exponents to generate equivalent expressions.
Use scientific notation to estimate very large or very small quantities.
Perform operations with numbers expressed in scientific notation and other forms.
Solve linear equations.
Show that a linear equation in one variable has one solution, infinitely many solutions, or no solution.
Describe translations, reflections, rotations, and dilations using coordinates.
Trimester 2:
Graph and compare proportional relationships.
Solve systems of two linear equations in two variables graphically and algebraically.
Compare and write functions in different ways.
Interpret the rate of change and initial value of a function.
Evaluate square roots and cube roots.
Explain a proof of the Pythagorean Theorem and its converse.
Use the theorem to find missing measures of right triangles and distances between points in the coordinate plane.
Trimester 3:
Classify and determine the measures of angles created when parallel lines are cut by a transversal.
Use similar triangles to solve problems that include height and distance.
Apply the formulas for the volumes of cones, cylinders, and spheres.
Construct and interpret scatter plots and use two-way tables.
Choose appropriate data displays.
